mp4 ESHEREIBE.Q: Is it possible to make some code "compile-time checked"? I'm working on a C++ project, and in this project, I need to specify certain units for floating-point numbers. This can either be done with fpclassify or to calculate the number of digits the numbers should have to avoid overflow, if necessary. But I was wondering if there is a way to make this compiler error at compile time, or in the preprocessor, so I can get compile-time warnings in my code. I'm specifically wondering if I can avoid checking the length of some C string in my code. I don't want to have to check the length of some string and then write code that fails if the string is shorter than the minimum length. I know that it is possible to check the length of a C string in the preprocessor: #define SIZE(string) (sizeof(string)/sizeof((string)[0])) But how do you do it in the compiler? A: The name for that is type-safe static_assert. From the C++11 standard, ยง7.1.5.2/4: const char* n is
